About Gretchen

As a six year-old girl growing up in Kansas, Gretchen’s earliest memories include painting decorations, with her mother, on merchant’s windows for the changing season and holidays. She began experimenting with other mediums in her teens and was recognized by the local newspaper as they showcased some of her work. Much of her inspiration came from her mother who offered love and encouragement. Although she left this life too soon, she continues to have a prominent influence in Gretchen’s direction in life and in art. Her mother taught children who were blind to experience what life had to offer through touch. This appreciation of art and texture created a dream-to-reality which started seven years ago with the development Gretchen’s Creations L.L.C.. This allowed Gretchen to explore, among other creations, the technique of adding dimension to walls through the manipulation of water-based plaster and color to create a texture-enriched organic landscape. Her work with walls evolved into creating Ash Cremain Embedded Memorial Plaster Portraits after losing both of her parents.  This art form exemplifies the significance of texture beyond the beauty recognized by the eye, and helps those find comfort who are grieving. My hope is one’s hand is drawn in before the eye and after the heart.
